“It has allowed me to meet new people and make new friends as well as give me the responsibility of handling my own money. It has given me confidence and I look forward to my Wednesday night every week.”

InterAct supports young people ages 10-18 with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) to get out and about in the community: so they can have fun, try new activities, make friends, and develop new skills, whilst also giving parents/carers a break.

Whether it’s a couple of hours at the cinema, bowling or karaoke, or spending a day at the beach, zoo or an activity centre, our Short Breaks Activity Programmes are bursting with fun things for young people to do.

InterAct offers after-school & evening activities, with term-time groups in Braintree, Chelmsford, Colchester, and Tendring District, and/or online (while COVID-19 restrictions are in place). We go further afield for day trips & activities during school holidays and at weekends.

Newcomers are always made welcome by our staff and other members of the groups – so why not register and come along for a ‘taster session’?

To join InterAct’s Short Breaks clubs and activities, please complete and return a Registration Form.

InterAct’s clubs and activities are provided as part of the Short Breaks service in Essex for children & young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), which is funded by Essex County Council.

Registration with Essex County Council’s Short Breaks service is therefore also required, to obtain a Short Breaks ‘Passport ID Number’. This provides access to the activities/groups run by InterAct, and for a wide range of other Short Breaks opportunities in Essex.

Important Additional Information - InterAct Short Breaks and COVID-19

InterAct launched a programme of online group sessions in March 2020, after other activities were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These have been successful: providing other opportunities for young people to have fun together, and to keep in touch with their friends.

A more limited programme of face-to-face activities recommenced in Summer 2020, with thorough COVID-19 risk management procedures in place. All future face-to-face activities will be dependent upon Government guidance & any restrictions applying at the time, and may be subject to change or cancellation at short notice.
