“It has allowed me to meet new people and make new friends as well as give me the responsibility of handling my own money. It has given me confidence and I look forward to my Wednesday night every week.”
InterAct supports children & young people aged 8-18 with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) to get out and about in the community: so they can have fun, try new activities, make friends, and develop new skills, whilst also giving parents/carers a break.
There are now separate groups, providing age-appropriate actvities for those aged 8-14, and for 15-18 year-olds.
Whether it’s a couple of hours at the cinema, bowling or karaoke, or spending a day at the beach, zoo or an activity centre, our Short Breaks Activity Programmes are bursting with fun things for young people to do.
InterAct offers after-school & evening activities, with term-time groups in Braintree, Chelmsford, Maldon, Colchester, and Tendring District,. We go further afield for day trips & activities during school holidays and at weekends.
Newcomers are always made welcome by our staff and other members of the groups – so why not register and come along for a ‘taster session’?

InterAct launched a programme of online group sessions in March 2020, after other activities were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Face-to-face activities gradually recommenced from Summer 2020, with thorough COVID-19 risk management procedures in place, and adhering to the Government guidance & any restrictions applying at the time.
Full 'in person' programmes have now resumed.
